First and foremost, I know it’s been almost 6 weeks since my last post. I’m noticing a theme in my blogging habits so far this year, and if I wanted to lie to myself, I’d say that I’m going to change these habits and post every single week. In complete honesty, though: things have gotten CRAZY busy over the last 4 months in all aspects of my life (personal, professional, and recreational), and I expect it to get even busier in the next 4-6 months. Posting every single week just ain’t happening, but I’m not going to beat myself up about it. This is one of those posts that I’m starting with no clue of how it’s going to turn out, and at this point, nothing feels more right. :o) Big things are happening in my little world right now, and at any given second, my mind is in what feels like 60 different places. Some days, it’s exhausting. Others, it’s completely invigorating. Today is totally the latter.
I’ve been up since 4AM and have been going nonstop. I had a two-hour workout this morning, and I’ve been way more productive at work than I feel like I’ve been in the last several days. I’ve also had a few “aha”/lightbulb moments that I’ve been waiting for, and to top it all off, I’m going to my first football practice tonight.
That’s right — football practice.
I’ve been recruited to play Ultimate Women’s Football with the Austin Inferno, and I’m going to my first outdoor practice this evening. Yes, it’s full-contact. Yes, I’ll be wearing full pads and a helmet. And, yes, I’ll probably get beaten up quite a few times this season, unless I get there tonight and decide it isn’t for me (which I don’t think will happen). Happy Friday, everyone! I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. This was my second year cooking for my family, and let me tell ya’ — it was FAR easier this time around. The food was finished an hour ahead of schedule, everything turned out wonderfully, and I only set the smoke alarm off twice — once cooking bacon during breakfast, and once heating up garlic for the stuffing. Of course, we ended it up with way more than enough food, and my workouts were incredible for the following 3-4 days. It’s crazy how much of a difference I can feel during my lifts when I’m eating at a surplus. So many new personal records (PR’s) in the gym!

Happy Hump Day, everyone!
Tomorrow marks the first day of May, which equates to the beginning of swimsuit season in my brain. Here in Austin, we started the week of with temperatures above 90 that had me longing for the pool, and I realized that for the first time in my short 24-year-long (or short, I guess) life, I’m SO PUMPED to go bikini shopping. I might actually go this Friday. Coincidentally, the first few party barge/boat party invites have started to circulate, and I’m not worried about buying a cover-up to hide under. The fact that I have self-confidence WITHOUT having to drink a ton before I feel comfortable in a bikini is kind of a big deal to me. I’d say it’s an unbeatable feeling.

Hellooooo, new dinner recipe! I feel like all I’ve been posting lately are either dessert recipes or things from muffin tins, so I’m breaking that pattern this week. I haven’t expressed my obsession with sweet potatoes enough through my blog posts, but we have a serious love affair. Fries, chips, tots, desserts, dinner rolls, caramelized, baked, stuffed — you name it, I can do it with a sweet potato. The funny part is that I absolutely despised these things as a child, and had I not started worrying about complex and low-GI carbohydrates last year, I probably still wouldn’t be familiar with the glory of the sweet potato.
